Mary ZillmannI paint and write and do the work I do because it is truly a driving force in me. Long before I even knew who or what my life purpose was – I was driven to find out who I am. At my high school reunion, many people said they knew I would be an artist. I was totally surprised. Some even said, “You always wanted to be an artist”. The drive in me was so innate I didn’t even know I was searching for anything. The lioness and lion paintings are a progression of the quest. Subtle, seemingly unimportant things are significant steps on our journey. The images we are drawn to are clues to the next step. The brilliant plan for our journey is ongoing – perfection.

The Lioness - Who Am I
The artist in me sees and experiences ever changing life. We have a mission here. We all do, even the times when we doubt everything. My painting of the Lioness is an image of the road to our transformation. Meditation and art brings us to stillness. Our practice of trust is tested by our wait. The waiting is made easier, for me by art and writing. Meditation is part of my practice. When I find I’m spinning with emotional chaos, the exercise of breathing calms my mind and the emotional storm. The rising up from deep struggle is born from going deep within where our true power lies. Our true inner power and strength is always there, accessible through our attention to our breath. Following our breath in is the portal; as long as we can breathe we can change. Even when we feel we have no place to turn – we can breathe. And in that awareness we enter the portal of our own personal connection to the billions of humans on earth and so much more in the nonphysical world. We are all connected. There we have access to infinite possibilities. One act of kindness to another human is connection to a higher level of emotion. Even a few seconds of kindness to another is our connection to our own inner possibilities of joy, peace, calm and ease of our own pain. Kindness and compassion change us, change our vibration and we shift. |

My choosing to be intentional about my practice is full of a variety of experiences, ups and downs. The struggle is absolute movement to inner growth. As the spinning narrows into my center, the confusion grows clear and calm. I am freed to release the fears that spun me to such distance from my Center. Imagine being a Lioness. My connection to my breath brings me to my power. The Lioness never forgets who she is. The Lioness has struggle and primal need to be the powerful being she is.
The Lioness does not doubt or judge herself. She is the Lioness. In the power of the present moment, I find tranquility and grace. It is there, far from chaos I am able to feel and hear my own inner Voice – the voice of the Lioness. And then, solutions to the problem, the fears, I thought were unmanageable emerge. The chaos vanishes naturally. My fear has had its run. My trust brings the Lioness to the place waiting for her.
The struggle always brings gift. Each moment we live and breathe, the Quest asks us to embrace who we are. The difficulties are of equal importance to the gift. But the gifts far surpass the struggle. Paintings of the Lion and Lioness carry with them energy of the Lioness or any subject. My guidance in painting is at times very clear and often the guidance is only my brush and a specific color. Rarely do I have full awareness of the vastness of a painting. The paintings reveal the layers as they are needed. They are always changing and specific for each person allowing space to surface, to feel, to be.
This is who I am, this is where I am. This is, Devine timing, no matter how it is being played out by me. Still it remains Perfect timing. Another challenge will surface; another perfectly amazing story will unfold as the sequel to the last.
I am good.
I am kind.
I can paint.
I can write.
I am on my eternal quest.
So are you.
